Press Release: Bob Good’s Statement on Judge Cavedo’s Ruling

Earlier today, Judge Cavedo in the Circuit Court for the City of Richmond granted a temporary injunction allowing the 7th Congressional District Republican Committee to extend the completion of it’s nominating process to July 28, 2020. The previous date of June 9 which required certification of Congressional nominees to the Virginia Department of Elections in order to appear on the November ballot conflicted with the Governor’s Executive Order No.55 requiring a temporary stay at home order until June 10. The Republican Party of Virginia has asked the court to award similar relief to the other 10 districts.

5th District Congressional candidate, Bob Good, stated “I am pleased that the Courts have allowed additional time for the 7th District Committee to certify their candidates to the Department of Elections given the Covid 19 outbreak and the subsequent restrictions on gatherings of individuals in groups of greater than 10. I await further information regarding an extension of time in the 5th District for the District Convention to be held in a safe and responsible manner”.

In the meantime, the 5th District Committee decided, by a majority vote taken on Sunday, April 12, during a conference call meeting, to reschedule it’s convention. Said Good, “My campaign is pleased that the committee held firm on it’s November 9, 2019 decision to select it’s nominee by Convention and will respect the rights of the duly elected Delegates. With over 60% of those Delegates elected by their County or City Republican Committees in the 5th District supporting me as their nominee of choice, I am glad to see that the Committee is moving forward with planning for a convention with safety as their top priority.

In addition, It is vitally important to me that all delegates receive accurate and factual information about the convention process that is consistent with the Republican Party of Virginia State Party Plan, and our campaign will be working closely with the Committee accordingly.”
